La grande varappe

Our La Grande Varappe wall is 20 m high and 11 m wide. It’s suitable for novices and experts alike, so everyone can climb to the top and drink in incredible views of Lake Geneva and Geneva. Attendees do not learn to climb on a one-to-one basis. The sessions take place as a group. Our monitor is here to help you during your experience.


USEFUL INFORMATION

Workshop duration : 1 hr (introduction, equipment, workshop)
Audience : Children aged 6 and over (6-11 year olds at the workshop must be accompanied by an adult. 11-16 year olds accompanied by an adult throughout the workshop
Availability : Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays, 11am-6pm
Times : 11am, 1.30pm, 2.40pm, 3.50pm, 5pm

The climbing wall is closed for the winter season. See you on 1 April 2024!
Meeting point : Upper station, wall reception area
Price : 12 € with a valid cable car ticket/30 € without a cable car ticket
Booking : Booking required on our website or at the gift shop at least 20 minutes before the workshop starts


CHILDREN
Climbing is an activity that develops countless physical and mental skills in children. The monitors tailor the lessons to suit the attendees’ age. They use a fun-filled method for younger children to boost their confidence and help build their motor skills. Older children can gain independence and improve their concentration as they have fun in the great outdoors.

ADULT
You’re never too old to learn to climb! Climbing is suitable for everyone and has no specific physical requirements. A monitor will help you get the most out of your hour-long experience

Professional mountain guides founded the bureau to provide a range of sports and activities around Salève within one structure: themed hiking, skiing, climbing, mountain biking, via ferrata etc.


FAQ

  • The outdoor event lasts 1 hour and takes place next to the upper station. Make your way to the bottom of the wall at least 5 minutes before your session starts !

    The monitor will meet you to briefly introduce the activity, safety rules and give you a demonstration before it’s time for you to have a go !

    The Bureau de la Montagne du Salève monitor will adapt the activity to suit your ability and requirements, whether you want to experience a real challenge, team spirit or just climb the wall at your own pace.

  • We provide basic equipment : rope, harness etc. We do not provide specific climbing shoes. Wear climbing shoes or trainers.

    Skirts and dresses are not recommended. Please where appropriate clothing : skort, shorts, loose trousers or comfortable sportswear.

    Since it’s an outdoor sport, please bring water, sunscreen, sunglasses, a cap, suitable clothes and shoes for the site and weather.

  • Climbing is suitable for all abilities. The climbing wall is designed for novices and experts alike to enjoy with 900 holds and 6 routes. The monitor will suggest the right exercises for your ability and requirements.

  • The monitor will check the weather conditions are suitable for climbing the evening before your session. In adverse weather conditions, your session will be cancelled. You can request a refund or reschedule to another date.

  • The climbing wall is supervised by a professional climbing monitor. Access is strictly forbidden even for experienced climbers outside activity time slots.
