Hiking trails

Among the iconic hiking trails on Mont Salève, the Pas de l’Échelle trail stands out for its challenging nature and rich history. From the cable car station, this direct ascent to the summit begins with an impressive 119 steps carved into the rock. Along the way, you follow the route of the old electric cog railway that connected Geneva to the summit of Mont Salève between 1893 and 1935.

The Pas de l’Échelle is perfect for active individuals looking to explore local heritage! Once you reach the cable car’s arrival station, the reward awaits: a panoramic view of the Geneva basin, Lake Geneva, and the Jura Mountains.

Note: This route is not recommended for families with young children. The trail has a significant elevation gain and is not accessible to everyone. The ground can be slippery in wet weather.

Suitable even for young children, this trail offers beautiful views of Lake Geneva and Mont Blanc. The atmosphere is peaceful, and it’s not uncommon to spot wildlife along the way.

This trail offers a cross-border hiking route between Geneva and Mont Salève. From the Pont de Sierne on the Swiss side, you gradually reach the Pas de l’Échelle and continue the ascent to the summit.
